Alienware is a subsidiary of the famous Dell Company. It is established in 1996 by its founders, Nelson Gonzales and Alex Aguila. It is currently headquartered in Florida, particularly in Kendall, Miami Dade’s unincorporated area. It is an American company whose line of business is computer hardware. It also builds and assembles notebooks, workstations and desktops.
It is noteworthy that the Alienware name was chosen by its owners and founders due to their love for the TV series X-Files. It is even more apparent with the names of their other products, e.g., Hangar18, Aurora, M15x, Area-51, etc. The company is also known for their designs that are sci-fi based.
Alienware’s main thrust is the assembly of 3rd party components into PCs which have custom enclosures to allow for high performance gaming. Their product outputs serve as support to graphic applications like simulation, video editing and audio editing. The company also is into the sale of reassembled laptop computers and other peripherals such as keyboards, headsets, mouse and monitors.
When it was established, the aim of the company is to find a place in the hi-performance game and entertainment market. Alienware, by 2005, has already been raking in and annual sales of $170 million and growing. In March 22, 2006, Dell acquired it. It retained its autonomy when it comes to the marketing and design of the products though. Currently, the company’s competitors are Velocity Micro, Puget Systems, Sager Notebook Computers, VoodooPC and even Dell’s XPS when it was not yet a subsidiary. These are great cheap refurbished laptop computers.
